During a Storm

What Not to Do

See the projected path of Hilary. Note the path is headed directly towards our area. The storm — which prompted a first-ever tropical storm warning for Southern California, is now moving faster than originally forecast, meaning it’s expected to impact the US earlier in the day Sunday.

Valley Center Fire Protection District Notice

VCFPD and surrounding agencies will be “up-staffing” starting on Sunday due to the expected weather conditions. This means we will be staffing additional apparatus to enable us to respond to simultaneous incidents more rapidly. We urge everyone to pay attention to the weather forecasts, avoid unnecessary trips, “turn around-don’t drown”, and generally just pay attention to your surroundings to avoid injury! If you need us, you know our number!!! That’s the three digit one!

VCFPD Fire Chief Joe Napier Notice

We could see rock and debries slides onto the roadway and remember to slow way down while traveling over the steel trench covers as they are extremely slippery when wet. Your Valley Center Firefighters are trained and prepared to manage any swift water emergency that could occur during the storm but don’t risk crossing if water is running rapidly over the few “Arizona” crossings we have or through the San Luis Rey crossing at Cole Grade Road. All Valley Center residents should prepare in advance by taking down summer umbrellas, light yard furniture and set sand bags in fluid prone areas. Sand Bags are available at Valley Center Fire Station 2, 28205 N Lake Wohlford Road.

San Diego Sheriff’s Department Notice

Expect torrential rain, damaging winds, flooding and more. Driving conditions will be dangerous. Stay home. Review your safety plan and stock up on supplies.

Valley Center Sheriff’s LT Notice

Storm Update: Category 4 storm barrels toward California. Life-Threatening and potentially catastrophic flooding likely over much of this weekend and Monday.
